A visitors guide to Milan, Italy

Milan, what can be said about the second largest city in Italy that hasn’t been said before?

With its many attractions, it has its history, the beautiful landmarks, the grand shopping malls that many visit for some of the most fashionable wearing apparel, especially shoes, dresses and suits, as well as a twice a year fashion show for some of the top labels.

Served by two international airports, it is a world centre for banking as well as being a major rail transportation hub.

There are many moderately priced hotels as well as a number of five-star hotels which are located right near the Milan Cathedral.

The climate is very pleasant, and its location is very convenient having Switzerland, the French Riviera and the historical cites of Florence and Rome nearby.

Some of the main sights to take in are the Duomo Cathedral which is one of the biggest Gothic Cathedrals in the world. Absolutely stunning is the word that comes to mind.

You have to visit the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele II an immense covered area constructed in honor of the King who unified Italy.

This is where you can find a number of fine Italian restaurants and shops. This has been featured in many films devoted to travel made for TV.

If you’re an opera buff, the Teatro all Scala is a work of art as well, with seating for over 2,000 is on the must see list.

A number of museums can be found in the Sforzesco Castle which is full of history and often used for cultural occasions, and when lit at night, it is nothing short of spectacular. You might just say candy for the eyes.

When you think of its history which goes back to the Roman times, you can still see the ruins.

During World War II, the city heavily bombed, many of the artistic and cultural treasures were left intact. Leonardo da Vinci’s “Last Supper” is only one being among many of those treasures that remain today, and is displayed in the church of Santa Maria delle Graziea, which I might add is one church to mark for a visit.

With climate, beauty, rich in history, numerous attractions as well as conveniently located near some of the most sought after vacation spots in the world makes Milan a must vacation trip for consideration.
